About HKOAC

The HKOAC was the direct result of a conference held at HKU in May 2007; "Promoting 21st Century Scholarly Communication: The Role of Institutional Repositories in the Open Access Movement".

The conference brought in speakers from around the globe describing the many successes that had been achieved in OA in far flung countries. Attendees decided that the time had come for Hong Kong also to join this movement. Key academics at several UGC institutions agreed to meet and evangelize for OA.

The HKOAC has held forums in 2007 and 2009. They have authored two white papers offering specific proposals on OA policy change to academic and funding bodies in Hong Kong,

The HKOAC has been instrumental in canvassing for a Data Archive for Hong Kong, that will hold data sets used for research, but not published. These data sets can then be reused by other researchers in new projects.
